Career Development Course

Course objective :
This course is designed to help Candidate developing a plan to choose a career path. This includes assignments and activities related to self-awareness, decision-making, career exploration, and skill development.The course provides opportunities and resources for candidate to seek career information related to academic and occupational interest patterns, which form the foundation for sound career decision making.Candidate are guided through individual and group exercises that assist in identifying needs,values, wants, interest, and abilities. The goal of the course is to help candidate’s develop a strong foundation for career decision planning through career inventories, research on careers, and personal reflection.
Each student will:
- Identify and relate at least 5 needs, values, wants, interests or abilities, and their influence on decisions about career choices
- Complete various assessments and determine how the results match career goals
- Identify and apply the steps to decision-making in career decisions
- Develop a plan to achieve his/her career goals
- Examine, through research and experiential exercises and/or occupational possibilities
COURSE DESCRIPTION :
This course will enable the candidate to develop techniques and strategies for identifying fields of interest, personal branding, and conducting an effective job plan. Emphasis is placed on personal discernment and identification of skills, interests and values. The candidate will engage in the assessing of marketable skills, researching the market place, building a personal brand and developing a network of contacts, writing resumes, cover letters, and other standard means of correspondence used in the job placement process. The candidate will engage in professional interviewing with the goal of achieving selection as an employee at their chosen organization.
The Career Development course is designed to improve the ability of students to describe their accomplishments and sell their ideas in situations like professional networking, company meetings, response to proposals for services, and interviews. It teaches writing skills and workplace integration for new jobs. Particular emphasis is put on verbal communication and preparation for verbal communication. Candidate will learn to create career plans that require them to research career options and potential employers, and prepare a developmental roadmap that will lead them success within the chosen profession.
Teaching methods include reading assignments, lecture, classroom discussion, and simulation exercises. A high emphasis is placed on participation in simulation exercises with subsequent coaching and feedback by both the instructor as well as fellow classmates.
